Villagers Of Kund Valley Face Acute Shortage Of Drinking Water
Qazigund: The residents of Kund Qazigund Tehsil on Monday alleged that they face a lot of problems due to acute shortage of water supply for past two weeks.
The residents which face acute shortage of water are as Katipora Waripora, Nowbough, Gujar Colony etc.
These villages are just a few kilometres away from famous water spring popularly known as Vasak Nag, which supplies water to about 30 villages.
Miffed over the callous attitude of the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department, the villagers ofย these areas threatened to hit the streets if the problem is not solved.
Water supply to their village has been snapped for the past two weeks and they were forced to consume contaminated water.
โThe consumption of contaminated water has led to water-borne diseases like jaundice and gastroenteritisโ Abdul Rashid, a local.
He said residents cover a distance of almost a kilometer to fetch drinking water from tube wells which consume a lot of our precious time and energy.
โIf we are paying water tariff on time, why has the department failed to ensure round-the-clock supply?โ asked Malik Javid, a resident of Nowbough villageโ.
When contacted Executive Engineer PHE of the area Ghulam Nabi Bhat he said โthe issue has come to my notice as soon as there will be an availability of funds, we will install a pipelines and within a week we restore the water supply in affected villagesโ.
