Pahalgam Attack: 6 Terrorists, Including 2 Locals, Carry Out Deadly Assault on Tourists

Pahalgam: In a chilling and coordinated act of terror, six heavily armed terrorists, including two local Kashmiris trained in Pakistan, attacked tourists in Kashmir’s Pahalgam on Tuesday afternoon. At least 28 people were killed, and several others injured, making it one of the deadliest attacks in the region in recent years.

According to security officials, the terrorists, dressed in khaki uniforms, targeted visitors in the scenic Baisaran Valley, a popular tourist destination. Witnesses reported that the attackers sought identification cards from tourists before opening fire indiscriminately with AK-47 assault rifles.

The two local terrorists, who had crossed into Pakistan for training in 2017, were part of the last batch of foreign infiltrators. Sources confirmed that this was the handiwork of Lashkar-e-Taiba. The terrorists were reportedly present in the area for over an hour before fleeing the scene.

“This was a premeditated and brutal attack,” a security official said. “The terrorists singled out tourists after verifying their identities, causing mass panic and devastation.”

Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos, with videos showing some victims being subjected to additional humiliation. Authorities are still investigating the exact motive behind the disturbing details.

The attack unfolded at around 2:45 PM, when a woman tourist called the police control room to report gunfire. Security forces, including the police, CRPF, and the Army, rushed to the scene, but by then, the terrorists had escaped.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Srinagar shortly after convening a high-level meeting in New Delhi. He is overseeing the investigation and assessing the security situation.

The attack comes during US Vice President J.D. Vance’s visit to India, casting a shadow on Kashmir’s fragile security environment. The massacre, targeting civilians in a tourist hub, represents a grim escalation by terror groups seeking to destabilize the region.

Efforts to track down the perpetrators are ongoing, with an intensified manhunt by security forces. Authorities are also focusing on tightening security measures to prevent future attacks.
