Won’t work For Muslims and Yadavas JD(U) Parliament Member
Devesh Chandra Thakur, a newly elected Janata Dal (United) MP from Sitamarhi, Bihar, made controversial remarks stating he would not work for Muslims and Yadavs, claiming they did not vote for him in the recent Lok Sabha elections. Thakur clarified that while he welcomes these communities and will perform general public duties, he refuses to do their personal work.
This statement sparked criticism within his party and from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). JD(U) MP Giridhari Yadav condemned Thakur’s remarks and demanded an apology. RJD MP Misa Bharti also criticized Thakur’s divisive comments, questioning the message he intended to convey. Despite the backlash, Thakur stood by his remarks, asserting his long-standing, non-discriminatory service to the people. The JD(U) had previously asserted that they would not support any anti-Muslim or anti-minority campaigns while in power with the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA).
Remarks by Devesh Chandra Thakur, a newly elected Janata Dal (United) MP from Bihar’s Sitamarhi, indicated that he would “not do any work” for Muslims and Yadavs, as it was claimed they did not vote for him in the Lok Sabha election. Thakur’s victory was achieved by a margin of 51,356 votes against Arjun Ray of the Rashtriya Janata Dal.
Criticism arose from within Thakur’s own party as well as from the Rashtriya Janata Dal. Giridhari Yadav, a JD(U) MP from Banka, condemned Thakur’s remarks and demanded an immediate apology. Misa Bharti, an RJD MP, questioned the intent behind Thakur’s “divisive remarks” and highlighted the discrepancy with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s slogan of “sabka saath, sabka vikas” (support of all, development for all).
In response to the backlash, Thakur stood by his statements but emphasized his 25 years of non-discriminatory service to the people. Earlier, JD(U) National Spokesperson KC Tyagi had assured that no anti-Muslim or anti-minority campaigns would be allowed to run while the party is in power with the BJP.
