Asia Cup , (Cricbuzz ) VVS Laxman has joined the Rohit Sharma-led Indian team, currently in Dubai for the Asia Cup. Cricbuzz understands that former India batsman, who served as the coach in India’s just-concluded three-match ODI series in Zimbabwe, has stayed back in Dubai on return from Harare. The rest of the squad, which played in the Zimbabwe series and not part of the Asia Cup contingent, have returned to India.
As per a BCCI release, Laxman will serve as the interim head coach of the Indian side for the August 27-Sepember 11 championship, until Rahul Dravid clears his Covid tests and travels to the UAE.
In its media release on Tuesday, the BCCI merely stated that “Mr. Dravid is under the supervision of the BCCI Medical team and has mild symptoms. He will join the team once he returns with a negative COVID-19 report.”
Meanwhile, other coaches, who went to Zimbabwe, like Sairaj Bahutule and Hrishikesh Kanitkar among others, have come back. India play their first game in the Asia Cup, against arch-rivals Pakistan, on Sunday (August 28).

Sophia Gardens in Cardiff is the home ground of the county.
