SRINAGAR — Two local militants, affiliated with Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militant outfit were killed while as one armyman was injured in an encounter that broke out between government forces and militants at Ahwatoo village in Kulgam district of South Kashmir on Tuesday.
Reports said a joint team of government forces including Indian Army, J&K Police and CRPF had launched Cordon-and-Search-Operation (CASO) at Ahwatoo village in Kulgam district following the inputs about presence of militants in the area.
They said that as the joint team of forces approached the suspected spot, militants fired upon them which was retaliated, triggering an encounter.
In the encounter, two local militants, affiliated with Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militant outfit were killed and they have been identified as Mohammad Shafi Ganie of Batpora, Kulgam and Mohammad Asif Wani @ Yawar of Takia Gopalpora, Kulgam.
One armyman was also injured during the encounter. He sustained splinter/ricochet injury in foot. He was evacuated to 439 Field Hospital, Awantipora for treatment.
The Gas Godown in vicinity of the target house also caught fire, leading to multiple explosions.
Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition including 02 AK 47 rifles were recovered from the site of encounter.
Police in a statement said, “both the killed militants were involved in several terror crime cases including attacks on police/security forces and civilian atrocities”. — (KIMS)
