Tral Hizb Militant’s Killing: Police Says ‘Grenade, Pistol, Burka’ Given To Deceased Inside Police Station

Srinagar: Police has claimed that a grenade, a pistol and Burka (clad) was brought to police station Tral and kept in unserviceable cistern in a bathroom inside it before same were taken by Mushtaq Ahmad Chopan, a militant of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen who died in grenade blast in the police station in February this year.

“During the course of investigation of case FIR No. 20/2018 U/S 221, 224 RPC 18, 20 ULA(P) Act and 7/27 Arms Act of P/S Tral, it came to fore that in pursuance of a well-knit criminal conspiracy hatched by some active (militants) of HM with deceased and some other persons to effect the escape of accused Mushtaq Ahmad Chopan from P/S custody, a Burka (clad), Pistol and a Grenade have been managed in premises of P/S Tral taking advantage of the fact that ladies were not being subjected to body search or scan by gadgets at the main gate of said P/S and said articles were concealed earlier in a unserviceable cistern of bathroom by a person who has been identified in connivance and knowledge of deceased Mushtaq Ahmad Chopan,” SSP Awantipora has said in a report submitted to SHRC on a compliant submitted by Chairman International Forum for Justice/Human Rights Mohammad Ahsan Untoo.

He has demanded investigation into the killing of Mushtaq Ahmed Chopan in the grenade explosion in police station Tral On February 26.

“The garments which deceased wore before changing them with the ladies dress (burka) were recovered from the bathroom and one Pistol and two magazines and 13 live cartridges were recovered and seized from escapee’s dead body which were hidden in the wrist belt wore by him,” the SSP said.

The SSP said that negligence and dereliction of duties on part of some police officials were posted on the date of the occurrence at police station Tral has come to fore as such offences under section 30 Police Act, 3 Police Enhanced Penalty Ordinanace and Section 223 RPC have been invoked in the case and offence 221 RPC has been dropped,” the SSP said, adding that investigation in the case was going on and efforts are being made to take the same to its logical conclusion with promptitude.” (GNS)
