Teenager drowns in Kokernag; body recovered

Srinagar, May 17: A 14-year-old youth drowned in a stream in south-Kashmir’s Anantnag district, this evening.

Reports reaching GNS said that one Aqib Ahmad Shiekh son of Fayaz Ahmad Shiekh from Irkumoo area drowned while taking bath at around 6 pm in the evening.

A rescue operation was launched soon after by police and local administration. However, as per reports, the operation concluded on the recovery of body of the youth at Sauf Kokernag.

SDM Kokernag, Owais Mushtaq, while confirming the incident told GNS, that the youth drowned in the evening hours while taking bath at Bringi nallah.

The body of the youth was retrieved soon after the incident, he said.

“We have handed over the body to the family after completing all medico-legal formalities”, the official added.
