Srinagar Jun 29 : Srinagar has been awarded the prestigious title of ‘World Craft City‘ by the World Craft Council, just a month after applying. This recognition places Srinagar as the second city in India, following Jaipur, to receive this honor.

“We are honored by this recognition and are working to host the next World Craft Council meeting in Srinagar,” stated Vikramjit Singh, Commissioner/Secretary to the Government, Industries & Commerce Department. Singh made this announcement while inaugurating the 3 day exhibition “Raising the Bar: Prototypes of New Age Products in Arts and Crafts,” organized by the Directorate of Handicrafts and Handloom in collaboration with GEN Z of Kashmir.

This accolade underscores Srinagar’s rich heritage in traditional crafts, known for its exquisite hand-woven textiles and intricate embroidery.

The title is expected to significantly boost the local economy and tourism, while also providing international recognition to the city’s artisans.

The award will likely inspire further innovation and preservation in Srinagar’s arts and crafts sector, reinforcing the region’s cultural legacy on a global stage.
