Sedition Case Against Mehbooba Over Militancy Remark

Srinagar: Anti-Terrorist Front India (ATFI) chief on Monday filed a sedition case against the former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti, for her recent comment that terrorists like Syed Salaluddin and Yasin Malik would emerge if the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) tries to break the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The petition was filed by ATFI chief and Shri Hindu Takht’s national spokesperson, Viresh Shandilya’s lawyer Sumit Sharma in Ambala Court.

The complainant termed Mufti’s statement as “shameful” and said, “militancy is getting a boost by such irresponsible utterances.” They also requested the court to direct the police to register a case of treason against Mehbooba for her anti-national statement.

Moreover, Shandilya requested for her to be put behind the bars so that no other politician dares to make such a statement.

Last week, the PDP chief had warned the BJP of dangerous outcomes of breaking the party.

“If Delhi tries to dismiss the voting rights of people like in 1987, and if it tries to create divisions and interfere like that, then I think just like a Salahuddin and a Yasin Malik were born in 1987, there will be dangerous consequences”.

On a related note, Ambala Chief Judicial Magistrate Pooja Singla has fixed the next hearing in the case for July 17. (ANI)
