Police Register Case Over False Social Media Posts Of Attack On Amarnath Yatris In Jammu

Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday registered an FIR after taxi drivers posted fake social media posts of attack on Amarnath pilgrims in Jammu.

An official said that police station Trikuta Nagar has registered an FIR vide number 173/2018 under sections 147/427/505 RPC and 2/22 Tourist Trading Act.

Giving details, he said that some unknown persons who operate a travel agency from Mangal market Jammu railway station have brought taxis from outside the state to ferry Amarnath pilgrims.

“Miffed at this, several drivers associated with local taxi agencies smashed the windowpanes of these privately-run taxis at Mangal market,” he said.

The official said that the drivers, instead of lodging a complaint with the police, posted concocted stories of attack on Amarnath yatris on the social media.

“These fake stories led to fear in the Amarnath Yatris,” he said, adding that the police lodged a case and started investigating the issue.

Meanwhile, nearly 6000 Amarnath pilgrims left Jammu today morning for the cave shrine in Kashmir Himalayas.
