NEP- 2020 to ensure Internationalization of academics , Mentor – Mentee arrangements for students: Rohit Kansal

 

Inaugurates Conference Hall, Devri- Stone Gate, Lays foundation stone for Eight Lecture Theatre & Library Blocks at SAM College Budgam
Budgam, November 25 : Principal Secretary, Higher Education, Information & Public relations J&K ,Rohit Kansal IAS, today visited Sheikh-ul-Alam Memorial (SAM), Degree College Budgam where he inaugurated Conference Hall building, Devri- Stone Gate and lays foundation stone for Eight Lecture Theatre and Library Blocks.
Deputy Commissioner Budgam, S F Hamid IAS,Director Colleges, Dr.  Yasmeen Ashai, Principal SAM College, Dr. Mudasir Afshan were also present on the occasion.
After inauguration the Principal Secretary also attended a programme at Conference Hall, where he  released College Newsletter in presence of staff and hundreds of students.
Speaking on the occasion as the chief guest, the Principal Secretary apprecaited the faculty and College management for bringing immense change and improvement in infrastructure, academics and overall functioning of the College since it’s opening in the year 2005.
He said that the government has taken various initiative and measures to bring excellence in the academics and implementation of National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is one such great step towards it.
He said that the NEP- 2020  not only will ensure Internationalization of academics and our colleges will have  sister arrangements at both national and international level but also student exchange arrangements with students from different foreign countries shall provide ample opportunities to our students to learn  about international curriculum design.
He said on one hand students from Jammu and Kashmir will avail best practice of international curriculum design and on the other hand they will get best opportunities to learn and exchange their skills  creativity and knowledge  with students from other states and  students from different countries.
Principal Secretary further informed that mentor- mentee arrangements for students at colleges would also help in bringing excellence in the academics.
He said besides other initiatives, the colleges shall also be provided with research facilities and both faculty and students will be trained for research work like done in Universities.
He said that under NEP -2020 the students can also avail 40 percent of credits through Academic Bank Credit and encourage students to embrace a multidisciplinary educational approach and  making students “skilled professionals” and fostering their overall development are the goals under it.
Meanwhile, Principal Secretary urged students to dream big and remain focused to their academics and do better in both academics as well co- curricular activities for their overall personality development.
DC Budgam, Director Colleges and Principal SAM also spoke on the occasion.
DC Budgam who was as Guest of Honour said that special focus is being given on the improvement of education sector and increase Literacy rate in the district.
He said that the district administration is committed to provide all necessary support to the educational institutions of the district so that they realise their full potential.
He apprecaited the College mismanagement for its support to the district administration in all social sector and other awareness programmes.
On the occasion , different cultural programmes were presented by the students of college. Principal secretary Higher education, DC Budgam distributed prizes among the students for their outstanding performances in various disciplines.(KNS)
