Militant’s Father Provides Sample For DNA, Langate Observes Shutdown

Srinagar: Amid complete shutdown in Langate and its adjoining parts, father of the militant killed along with four others on Wednesday in Rafiabad forests of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, on Saturday gave the sample for the DNA examination.

Bashir Ahmad Mir of Langate, Handwara, who claims to be the father of the slain militant Muzaffar Ahmad Mir told GNS that he was called by the police station Dangiwacha Saturday morning for providing them a sample for DNA examination.

“I have given blood samples twice to the authorities for carrying the DNA examination,” Mir said, adding after providing them the sample, the authorities said it will take some time for the report to come.

He appealed the higher-ups for completing the procedure as early as possible. “On Thursday late evening, our family members saw the picture of all the five slain on social media and one among them looks same as my son Muzaffar,” he said.

He said there was no need to go for DNA as “I identified my son through the picture on social media and also through the photograph shown in the police station”.

SSP Sopore Javid Iqbal also confirmed to GNS that a sample of slain militant’s father was collected for the DNA test. “The sample has been sent to Forensic Laboratory New Delhi for examination and we will make all efforts to get the report soon”.

“Once the report is received, the body will be exhumed and handed over to the family,” he said.

Army on Wednesday claimed to have killed the five LeT “non-local nationalists” in an encounter at Vijay Post – the upper reaches of Rafiabad. The encounter according to army broke out when the army launched searches following inputs about the presence of some militants in the area.

On Friday, the family approached concerned police station and the SSP concerned to complete the legal procedure for conducting the DNA examination of their son.

The slain Muzaffar went missing a week ago and the family reportedly feigned ignorance about him joining the militant ranks.

The family said that a missing report was already lodged at police station Langate on August 6.

Later, Mudasir along with four other associates were buried at Hamam Markote area of Rafiabad late Thursday evening after the post-mortem and other legal formalities were carried out.

Meanwhile, a complete shutdown was observed in Langate area of Handwara in the northern district after hearing the report about the killing of the local militant in the gunfight. (GNS)
