Jehangir Chowk-Rambagh Flyover To Be Inaugurated Today: DC Srinagar
Srinagar: The last phase of the Jehangir Chowk-Rambagh flyover will be inaugurated and thrown open for vehicular traffic today on June 30.
The inauguration of the last phase tomorrow will be after over five and a half years since work on the prestigious flyover project started in October 2013 and over a year after the first phase thereof was inaugurated and thrown open in May last year.
Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary who visited the flyover Saturday evening said tomorrow is a big moment for both the administration and the people of the district and it comes after big and focused efforts over the last several months to complete it by this new deadline.
He said the stretch will be thrown up for vehicular traffic from Jehangir Chowk towards Rambagh adding that traffic towards Jehangir Chowk will be allowed after completion of construction of ramp at Jehangir Chowk which is expected to take about two weeks.
The much-awaited completion and opening of this last phase is expected to result in huge traffic relief to commuters traveling across the busy stretch between Jehangir Chowk and Rambagh.
The development comes about a month after the second phase of the flyover from Rambagh to Alochi Bagh was thrown open after several hiccups hampering its completion were sorted and pace of work expedited.
The Governor administration has made construction and completion of the flyover amongst its main developmental concerns in the Srinagar city being seen as a significant remedy to traffic congestion thereof, said an official spokesman.
The Srinagar administration has been at the forefront of efforts to speed up the construction of the flyover project having been regularly monitoring construction work and redressing related concerns, he said.
The 2.4 kilometre flyover with six access ramps – including at Jehangir Chowk, Gogji Bagh, Alochi Bagh, Rambagh, Natipora and Barzulla – is expected to substantially decongest city traffic and reduce travel time between Jehangir Chowk and Rambagh from about 45 minutes as it takes now to about 3 minutes.
