Hajin Gunfight: Police Version

Srinagar: Police on Thursday issued the following statement about the Hajin gunfight saying a joint team of government forces today in the early morning hours launched a search operation based on credible inputs about the presence of terrorists at Par Mohalla in Hajin area of District Bandipora.

A police spokesperson in a statement said that during the searches, militants fired on the search party, which was retaliated leading to an encounter. In the ensuing encounter, two militants were killed.

“Huge quantity of arms and ammunition including rifles, magazines, pouches etc and incriminating material was recovered from the site of the encounter,” he said.

“From the incriminating material seized from the site of the encounter, it is learnt that both the killed militants were foreigners from Pakistan and identified as Rizwan alias Jindaal and Ali alias Maaz,” said police spokesman.

“Both were affiliated with proscribed militant outfit LeT and were involved in several attacks on security establishments and civilian atrocities in the area,” he added.

The spokesman said Police has registered a case in this regard and the investigation has been initiated in the instant matter.
