Day 4: Akhal Gunbattle Rages On — One Terrorist Killed, 3 Soldiers Injured; Army Deploys Elite Forces, Helicopters in Massive Anti-Terror Push

ANN NEWS | Srinagar | August 4:

The high-stakes encounter between security forces and terrorists in the dense Akhal forest region of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district has stretched into its fourth day, with intermittent gunfire and explosions continuing throughout the night, official sources confirmed to ANN News.

According to senior officials, the ongoing operation—launched last Friday—is facing challenges due to the difficult forested terrain, slowing down the forces’ advance and requiring strategic caution. So far, one terrorist has been confirmed killed, with his body recovered from the site, while three Army personnel have sustained injuries during intense firefights.

To tighten the noose around the remaining terrorists believed to be holed up in the area, the Army has deployed Rudra attack helicopters, aerial drones, and elite Para Special Forces. All entry and exit points to the forest have been completely sealed, making any escape attempt virtually impossible.

“The operation is being closely monitored at the highest level. Additional reinforcements are on the ground, and the area remains under strict cordon,” a top security official told ANN News.

Officials emphasize that the terrain remains highly treacherous, with thick vegetation and natural cover giving terrorists a tactical advantage. However, the Army is determined to clear the area and neutralize all threats.

“The operation will continue until the entire zone is declared fully sanitized,” the official added.

The extended gunbattle has triggered heightened alert in the region, with locals advised to stay indoors and avoid movement near forested areas. The encounter has drawn significant attention from security and intelligence agencies, given the use of sophisticated surveillance and combat tools.

More details are awaited as the operation continues.
