Cousin of Grand Mufti, founder ‘Save Srinagar Front’, Mufti Nazimuddin dies of COVID-19

Srinagar: The founder of ‘Save Srinagar Front’ political party and cousin brother of Grand Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam died here on Sunday due to the COVID-19.

Family sources told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that Mufti Nazimuddin (70) was undergoing treatment at a hospital in Srinagar after he was tested positive for COVID-19 a week ago.

They said that Mufti Nazimuddin breathed his last today afternoon.

Mufti Nazimuddin was a retired forest official and the founder of a political party ‘Save Srinagar Front’. He was also cousin brother of Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam.

He was the resident of Zakura in Srinagar and had founded the party in 2008. He had contested the assembly elections unsuccessfully in the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir in the same year from Hazratbal constituency.

Talking to KNO, Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam condoled the demise of Mufti Nazimuddin and urged the people not to visit the family to offer condolences keeping in view the COVID-19 protocols.

He also thanked those who offered their condolences telephonically to the family of the deceased and urged people to offer their condolences telephonically as well.

Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam said that they have not yet decided about Fateh Khawani (Prayers after Death) and mostly will not be held due to COVID-19. (KNO)
