Coaching Centers in Srinagar: Profit Over Education? Concerns Over High Fees and Quality

ANN NEWS DESK

Srinagar, J&K – Private coaching centers in Srinagar, especially in areas like Parray Pora and Rajbagh, have become a subject of intense debate as students and parents voice concerns over high fees and questionable educational quality.

Many coaching centers, now housed in large commercial buildings, are reportedly making significant profits, turning these areas into hotspots of educational commerce rather than hubs of learning.

With the rise of these centers, education seems to have shifted from a necessity to a lifestyle trend among students. A local professor from Kashmir University recently urged parents to consider local coaching options within their own districts, rather than sending their children to Srinagar.

According to him, students are increasingly treating education as a social experience rather than focusing on learning, with coaching centers becoming a symbol of fashion and popularity.

A parent from Kulgam expressed his frustration with the current state of education in Srinagar. “The high fees charged by these coaching centers are a huge burden on hardworking families,” he said, adding that it feels like these institutions are more interested in financial gain than in providing quality education. With a growing sense of dissatisfaction among the community, many are calling on the government to take action.

There is a demand for stricter regulation of coaching centers to ensure that fees are fair, and educational quality is maintained. Local citizens are urging the government to implement standards that would make these institutions more accountable. By addressing these issues, they hope to ensure that education remains an opportunity for learning rather than a commercialized experience.
