CM Omar Abdullah Denies Any Secret Understanding with BJP, Says “If Some Have Sold Their Iman, We Can’t Do Anything”

Srinagar, October 27, 2025:

Amid growing political murmurs following the recent Rajya Sabha elections, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday categorically denied having any secret understanding with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Addressing the media after the second day of the ongoing Assembly session, Omar Abdullah firmly dismissed allegations of political deal-making and said his party had fought the elections with full honesty and commitment.

“We have no secret understanding with the Bharatiya Janata Party,” Omar Abdullah stated. “We tried our best to win all four Rajya Sabha seats, and though we succeeded in winning three, we accept the outcome with dignity. If some people have chosen to sell their Iman (faith), we can’t do anything about that,” he remarked in a sharp response to allegations of cross-voting and betrayal within the political ranks.

The Chief Minister’s comments come amid reports of discontent and blame-trading among political circles following unexpected voting patterns during the Rajya Sabha elections. While the National Conference (NC) managed to secure a majority of seats, internal rifts and questions about loyalty have reportedly created unease within the party’s cadre.

Omar Abdullah, however, maintained that his focus remains on governance and on fulfilling the promises made to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He added that political speculation and “drawing-room theories” will not distract the government from its core responsibilities.

Meanwhile, political observers note that Omar Abdullah’s strong reaction reflects the growing tension within the opposition camp and the fragile balance of alliances in the current political landscape of Jammu and Kashmir.

As the debate over alleged cross-voting continues, Omar’s statement — “If some have sold their Iman, we can’t do anything” — is being widely interpreted as a direct message to those accused of betraying party lines during the crucial election.
