Change of venue for public durbar aims to provide relief to people: DGP RR Swain

Appeals people to come up with grievances pertaining to police only
Srinagar, Jan 12  : Director General of Police J&K RR Swain Friday said that change of venue for the Public Redressal Programme was aimed to reach out to people in their respective areas and provide relief to them.
Talking to KNS, DGP Swain said that Police are meant for public service and it will not run away from its responsibilities. He said that J&K Police have taken a gigantic step of listening to people’s grievances and and resolve them for their welfare and well-being. 
“We have started to listen people’s grievances. Many sittings have been conducted both in Jammu and Kashmir regions. People throng such durbars with hope that their issues will get resolved, and we too are committed to provide them respite,” the DGP said.
He said as they held few sittings in Srinagar, he saw many people coming from far off areas, waiting in long queues while braving cold, after which they decided to hold such public meetings out of Srinagar district as well. “This way we will reach out to people in their native areas and provide relief to them at their door steps,” he said.
He said that Police are using its every effort to make relations with people cordial. “Public is our important core and we are part and parcel of each other. We have initiated this step toward better relation between police and public, and it will be augmented further in future.” 
He appealed to visitors to come up with those grievances linked to police department only. “On many occasion we have seen visitors put forth those issues which do not belong to the police. I request my people to come up with those issues only which belong to police only,” DGP said.
Earlier, the police announced that venue of DGP J&K Public Grievances Redressal Programme which was scheduled to be held at PHQ Peerbagh, Srinagar tomorrow, will now be held at DPL Zangli Kupwara on the same date and time. (KNS)
