Gundpora Devsar Residents Hold Protest Against Water Scarcity

Qazigund: Residents of Gundpora Devsar in Qazigund area, in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Monday held a protest demonstration against the water shortage in the area.

Scores of the residents including men, women and children assembled on Qazigund kulgam Road and raised Slogens against Public Health Engineering Department (PHE) Qazigund.

The protest demonstration led to disruption of traffic movement for hours on the busy road.

Water supply to their village has been snapped for the past few days and they were forced to consume contaminated water. “The consumption of contaminated water has led to water-borne diseases like jaundice and gastroenteritis” Faizan Ahmad , a local from Gundpora Village.

He also added that “If we are paying water tariff on time, why has the department failed to ensure round-the-clock supply?”.

However the residents demanded that authorities must take measures to end the water shortage faced by locals for the past several days.

When contacted Executive Engineer PHE Qazigund Ghulam Nabi Bhat he can’t attend the phone call of Reporter.
