Neutralized 6 Terrorists in South Kashmir Within 48 Hours After Coordinated Efforts
Srinagar, May 16 : Security forces on Friday held a joint presser and said that six terrorists were gunned down in coordinated operations across Shopian and Pulwama over the past two days, following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam.
The presser was jointly addressed by Kashmir Zone Police chief, IG CRPF, Commandent Victor Force.
Inspector General of Kashmir (Range) V.K. Birdi, while speaking in the presser at Awantipora, as per news agency JKNS, said that forces launched a swift and intelligence-backed crackdown across South Kashmir after the Pahalgam incident. “The response was immediate. All agencies worked in tandem, leading to the successful elimination of the terrorists,” he said.
He added that the operations were launched based on actionable intelligence and were carried out with precision and speed to prevent further threats.
Major General Dhananjay Joshi, who commands the Victor Force, said security agencies will not allow terrorists to regroup anywhere in the Valley. “Whether hiding in dense forests or among civilians, they will be found and neutralised,” he said.
He said that one operation took place in the higher reaches of Keller and posed topographical challenges, while the other was carried out in a residential zone in Tral after evacuating all civilians.
“One of the terrorists, Shahid Kuttay, was involved in two serious attacks, including one on a foreign tourist,” he said.
IG CRPF Mitesh, also present at the press conference, said the success of these operations wouldn’t have been possible without support from the public. “People’s cooperation is key. Timely inputs from locals have played a vital role in recent encounters,” he said, urging residents to keep assisting the forces.
He said that the ultimate goal is not just neutralisation of threats but ensuring lasting peace across Jammu and Kashmir.(JKNS)
