We just want to find a way to go home: Maxwell

New Delhi: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has said that Australian cricketers just want to find a way to go back home by any means at the end of Indian Premier League (IPL).

The group stage of IPL 2021 will end on May 24 and the final is scheduled to stage on May 30.

Currently, Covid-19 situation in India has been getting worst day by day as they reported 3,79,308 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, the seventh straight day of record peaks. Australia have already banned any commercial flights from India for this worse situation. That’s why Australian cricketers are worrying at the moment for their return to home.

Even Maxwell said about the possibility of going to England with India, New Zealand and England players. India and New Zealand are set to play the World Test Championship final from June 18 after IPL for which BCCI will arrange a chartered flight for these players and it is said that England players will also accompany them.

“We just want to find a way to go home. The BCCI, both governments can work a solution. If we have to wait bit longer, so be it but there is a way to get home at some stage,” Maxwell told “The Final Word Podcast” conducted by journalists Geoff Lemon and Adam Collins.

“India and England are going to play in England. Worst comes to worst, we have to wait in England and try and find a way out in that chartered (flight) and get out of India. I am sure a lot of guys will try and put their hand up in trying to do that as well,” Maxwell said.

BCCI treasurer Arun Dhumal also said that they’re also thinking about all kind possibility to return the IPL-bound players safely at home. “Travelling to England and going to Australia from there could be an option that can be explored. There will be various options and obviously BCCI will try and take the safest one which doesn’t compromise any of the players’ health and security,” Dhumal told PTI.

Earlier, five players- Ravichandran Ashwin (Delhi Capitals), Andrew Tye, Liam Livingstone (Rajasthan Royals), Adam Zampa, Kane Richardson (Royal Challengers Bangalore) had pulled out of the tournament due to different reasons related to Covid-19.

BCCI’s interim chief executive officer (COO) Hemang Amin confirmed on Tuesday that they will ensure proper travelling system to send the IPL-bound players back home at the end of the league.
