We Are More Indians Than Anyone Else: Says Jamait backed candidate,Urges People To Celebrate Poll Day As Eid Festival

Srinagar, Sep 17: Sayer Ahmad Reshi, an independent candidate from Kulgam constituency supported by the proscribed Jamait-e-Islami, has declared that Election Day will be celebrated akin to Eid, with festivities including new clothes and special dishes to mark the occasion.

In a recent TV interview on ANN News, Reshi addressed accusations that Jamait has supported or called for an election boycott. He firmly denied these claims, stating, “Following the rigging in the 1987 elections, we distanced ourselves from the electoral process as a form of political protest. However, we never issued or supported any boycott call.”

Reshi also discussed the expulsion of Syed Ali Shah Geelani from Jamait, explaining that Geelani was removed due to his pro-Pakistan stance and his deviation from Jamait’s established guidelines. “Geelani was expelled from Jamait’s basic membership after he violated our rules and pursued his own agenda for Azadi,” Reshi said while replying to a query.

He added that calls for election boycotts came from the Hurriyat Conference, not from Jamait, which has consistently refrained from endorsing such calls.

“We are more Indians than anyone else,” he said while replying to a query addressing concerns about the sincerity of their intentions to re-enter the electoral process.

He emphasized that the violence in Kashmir has resulted in numerous deaths, and asserted that participation in the electoral process is a vital step toward alleviating the suffering of the common people.

Reshi expressed Jamait’s commitment to work towards peace and the welfare of the people, positioning their political involvement as a means to foster peace and welfare.
