Was paid Rs 5 lakh to ‘maintain silence’: victim tells enquiry committee

Srinagar, March 8: The victim, in alleged falsification pregnancy reports and its illegal termination offer scam, recorded her statement before the inquiry committee on Friday.

“(After public outcry) a lady came to my office and requested me to return the prescription and we will pay Rs 5 lakh for the same but I refused same (sic),” victim told enquiry committee set up by government to probe the matter.

She further deposed in her statement, a copy of which lies with ANN News, that the lady in question told her “you’re an unmarried and you’ll face big problems in future.”

She further told committee that she has approached also Srinagar Police for the registration of the case.

Government has establishes high-level Inquiry Committee to investigate alleged falsification pregnancy reports and termination offer by a doctor in Srinagar.

The Committee is headed by District Health Officer Dr Rubina, Sources privy to development told ANN News.

Other members of the committee include Zonal Medical Officer (ZMO) Batamaloo Dr Sami and ZMO SR Gunj Dr Shafqat and Dr Parvaiz.

On 5 March, this year, taking cognizance of ANN News reports, authorities have taken action to seal a clinic at Bemina Srinagar.

Meanwhile, family members of victim told ANN News that the victim accompanied by her elder sister recorded her statement before the committee.

The committee took her to the clinic in question and recorded her statement there. “She recorded her statement in presence of accused doctor and was accompanied by her elder sister. The male and female members of doctor were also present there,” they said.

They added that initially her elder sister accompanying her was not allowed to witness the recording of statement. “She was only allowed after one of the committee members shouted at victim and made her wept. Despite undue pressure by the member, the victim stuck to her statement,” they said.

The family said that they are cooperating with committee and will also cooperate with the Police investigation.
