Uttarakhand CM Trivendra Singh Rawat resigns

Uttarakhand CM Trivendra Singh Rawat resigned on Tuesday (March 9). CM Rawat went to Raj Bhawan in Dehradun to meet Governor Baby Rani Maurya to submit his resignation. CM Rawat met senior BJP leaders, including party president J P Nadda in New Delhi on Monday.

It is expected that senior BJP leader and first-time MLA Dhan Singh Rawat may become the next chief minister of Uttarakhand.

Sources said that BJP MLAs in Uttarakhand may meet at 11 am on Wednesday to select the new chief minister.

Addressing a press conference after meeting the Governor, the incumbent CM thanked the BJP for giving him the opportunity to become the chief minister of Uttarakhand. The outgoing CM said that he will work together with anyone who will be chosen by the party to lead the state.

“The party gave me a golden opportunity to serve this State for four years. I had never thought that I would get such an opportunity. The party has now decided that the opportunity to serve as CM should be given to someone else now,” Rawat said in Dehradun.

When asked about the reason behind his resignation, Rawat said that in order to know the answer for this question people will have to go to Delhi.

It is to be noted that Assembly election in Uttarakhand is scheduled to take place early next year and the incumbent government will complete its four years in office on March 18

Earlier on Tuesday, former CM and Congress leader Harish Rawat had said, “I can see a change in power happening. Even the BJP’s central leadership has admitted that its present govt in the State could not do much. No matter who they bring now they will not come back to power in 2022.”
