Unauthorized, multi-storied commercial building demolished at Baghat, locals laud SMC

Srinagar, Sep 21:* An unauthorised, multi-storied, under-construction building was demolished at Nawachbagh Bagh Baghat Srinagar on Monday by Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC).
The development came after locals vehemently opposed the commercial building in the residential area and lodged a protest with authorities.
The SMC team equipped with demolition equipments on Monday arrived at spot and carried demolition.
“The owner was granted building permission for residential house. Later, the permission granted was put on abeyance after finding he was constructing commercial building in violation of rules,” said Mehraj-u-Din Buja, SMC enforcement officer.

Muhammad Hafeez Tantray, a local said that SMC has acted rightly against violator. “We thank SMC for its action today,” he added.
Muhammad Arif Bhat, president of local Mohalla committee Nawichbagh said the resumption of construction work came as a shock to entire society.
“We are hopeful now that SMC will keep eyes open and would invoke stringent provisions of law in case violation is repeated in any manner, whatsoever,” he said while thanking SMC Commissioner and Mayor for today’s action.
