Two terror associates arrested in Ganderbal; arms, ammunition, Rs 8.4 lakh seized
SRINAGAR (KIMS) — Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday said that two terror associates were arrested and arms, ammunition and cash amounting to Rs 8.4 lakh were recovered from their possession during a late-evening operation in Ganderbal district of Central Kashmir.
Police said the recovery was made by Police Station Ganderbal in coordination with the Special Operations Group (SOG) near Gundrehman Bridge.
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a load carrier bearing registration number JK15B-7309 was intercepted during naka checking.
During a thorough search of the vehicle, police recovered one Chinese pistol, one pistol magazine, four pistol rounds, two hand grenades and cash amounting to Rs 8,40,500, they said.
The arrested accused have been identified as Ghulam Nabi Mir, son of Mohammad Subhan Mir, a resident of Hajin in Bandipora district and Shabnum Nazir, daughter of Nazir Ahmad Ganie, a resident of Shalabugh in Ganderbal district.
Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and the Arms Act has been registered at Police Station Ganderbal. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the recovered arms and cash, the motive, and possible linkages, police added.
Police reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace and security in the district and appealed to the public to cooperate and share any information related to anti-national or criminal activities. — (KIMS)
