Two militants, one civilian killed in Pampore gunfight

Pampore: Two militants were killed and one surrendered in an overnight gunfight that broke out between government forces and militants at Meej area in Pampore town of Pulwama district.

The identification and affiliation of both the slain militants is yet to be ascertained.

One civilian namely Abid Nabi from Pampore was also killed and another civilian Kifayat Ahmad was injured during the initial stage of gunfight yesterday.

Earlier, government forces including J&K Police, Army’s 50 RR and CRPF had launched cordon and search operation in Meej area of Pampore on Thursday evening after receiving inputs about presence of militants in the area.

As the searches were intensified, suspected militants opened fire on forces party, triggering a gunfight.

During the initial stage, two civilians were injured among them one identified as Abid Nabi succumbed at SMHS Hospital in Srinagar on Friday morning.

Two militants were also in this gunfight on Friday afternoon.

Incriminating material including arms and ammunition were recovered from gunfight spot.

Meanwhile authorities have snapped down mobile internet services in PD Awantipora as a precautionary measure.
