Two militants killed in Shopian encounter

Shopian, Nov 10: Two militants were killed in an encounter between militants and government forces in South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Tuesday, officials said.

“The two militants killed in Kutpora have not been identified yet. Operation is going on,” police said.

The gunfight took place after the government forces cordoned off the area at dawn and launched a search operation on the basis of specific information about militant presence.

As the government forces zeroed in on the hideout, the militants launched the attack triggering the encounter that killed the two militants.

Local sources told KNT that one militant managed to escape from the spot.

“Arms and ammunition have been recovered from the encounter site. Two bodies have also been retrieved. The identity of the slain militants is being ascertained.”

An official said militants were asked to surrender but they declined.

This month 8 militants have been killed in different encounters. At least 15 persons including 3 soldiers and 2 civilians have been killed in different militancy related incidents. (KNT)
