Twitter head India booked for showing Ladakh in China, J&K seperate country in new map

NEW DELHI: In a late night development, Bulandshahr police booked Twitter India managing director Manish Maheshwari under Section 505 (2) of IPC and Section 74 of the IT (Amendment) Act 2008 for showing a wrong map of India on its website. The FIR was lodged on the complaint of a local lawyer, Bulandshahr SP Santosh Kumar Singh said, Times of India reported.

The map showed Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh as a separate country. PM Modi recently began engagements with political parties in J&K nearly two years after the revocation of its special status under Article 370.

After the map created an uproar, Twitter quietly withdrew the map, reports said.

The error had appeared on the career section of Twitter’s website under the header ‘Tweep Life’.

This is not just another incident in a series of controversies the American micro-blogging giant finds itself in India, but is also the third time in the past few months when it has displayed a wrong map of India on its platform. It is expected that the IT ministry may issue a show-cause notice to the company for the fresh transgression, and may also recommend action. However, officials did not make a formal comment. On its part, Twitter officials did not answer queries on the matter, and even its spokespersons refused to take calls from the media.
