Trump Rejects Intelligence on Iran’s Nuclear Program, Calls for Urgent Action

Washington, June 21, 2025 — In a dramatic departure from U.S. intelligence findings, President Donald Trump has publicly declared that the intelligence community is “wrong” in its assessment that Iran is not actively pursuing a nuclear weapon.

Speaking to reporters at a press conference in New Jersey, Trump directly challenged the testimony of Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, who earlier stated that Iran had paused efforts to build a nuclear weapon. “Then my intelligence community is wrong… She’s wrong,” Trump said, emphasizing his belief that Iran is closer to nuclear capability than experts suggest.

The U.S. intelligence community has consistently maintained that while Iran has enriched uranium and expanded its nuclear capabilities, it has not yet resumed weaponization activities. Trump, however, warned that Iran possesses a “tremendous amount” of enriched uranium and could potentially assemble a deliverable weapon within “weeks or months” if it chooses.

In March, Gabbard testified before Congress, estimating that Iran would need at least three years to produce a nuclear weapon. Trump’s remarks have sparked concerns about the administration’s alignment on critical security issues, with some lawmakers questioning the reliability of public statements from key officials.

Trump issued a stark ultimatum to Tehran, calling for the immediate dismantling of its nuclear program within two weeks. While he ruled out deploying U.S. ground forces, he did not eliminate the possibility of targeted military strikes. “The clock is ticking,” Trump said, adding that military action remains “a viable option.”

The President’s comments come amid heightened tensions in the Middle East. European nations have been urging de-escalation and continued diplomatic negotiations, but Trump dismissed these efforts, signaling a preference for a pressure-based strategy.

Iran, for its part, has vehemently denied accusations of pursuing nuclear weapons, insisting its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes. In response to Trump’s comments, Iranian officials accused the U.S. of “manufacturing crises” and reiterated that any attack on their nuclear facilities would result in severe retaliation.

Trump’s stance has elicited mixed reactions on the global stage. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised the President’s “clarity and resolve,” while European leaders expressed concern over the potential for military escalation. Russia and China have called for restraint, warning that further tension could destabilize the region.

As the deadline approaches, all eyes are on Tehran and Washington. With Trump doubling down on his claims and Iran showing no signs of backing down, the world braces for what could be a pivotal moment in U.S.-Iran relations.

Analysis: Trump’s dismissal of intelligence findings reflects his broader approach to foreign policy—unconventional and confrontational. Whether this strategy yields results or escalates into conflict remains to be seen.
