Trump Jokes About UN ‘Escalator & Teleprompter Fail’ in Fiery Speech
New York: Former US President Donald Trump turned a technical glitch into a punchline during his speech at the United Nations General Assembly.
As he began, Trump pointed out that the teleprompter wasn’t working. “I don’t mind making this speech without a teleprompter, because it is not working. I can only say that whoever is operating this teleprompter is in big trouble,” he quipped.
He also recalled another mishap earlier in the day when an escalator at the UN stopped midway. “If the First Lady wasn’t in great shape, she would have fallen. But she’s in great shape, we both are in great shape… we both stood,” Trump said, laughing.
Mocking the UN, Trump remarked: “These are the two things I got from the United Nations — a bad escalator and a bad teleprompter.”
Beyond the jokes, Trump’s address turned serious as he criticized mass migration and international climate change agreements. He emphasized the need for “rejecting the failed approaches of the past” and called on nations to join the US in creating “a safer, more prosperous world.”
Trump also revisited his past frustrations with the UN headquarters renovation, recalling how his idea for marble floors was rejected in favor of terrazzo.
