Trucks carrying essentials stranded in Poonch, drivers aghast
Poonch, Apr 15: Over a hundred trucks carrying essentials continue to remain stranded in Poonch causing fear and anxiety amid the drivers amid the coronavirus surge.
Reports reaching GNS said that hundreds of trucks laden with ration and other supplies are stranded near Sher-i-Kashmir bridge in the district.
A driver while talking to GNS said, “All the trucks stuck here are carrying ration and have come from various parts of the country. Despite pleas, the concerned officials are not allowing us to unload the supplies,”
“Amid the prevailing situation arising out of this Virus, we are feeling hapless and helpless”, he added
He said that there were drivers hailing from far-off places of the Union Territory and outside. “The families back home are worried about our health and safety,” he said.
When contacted Assistant Director Food & Supplies Poonch, Ranjit Singh told GNS that they are facing ‘paucity of space’ to store the ration for now.
“We will see what we can possibly do tomorrow “, the official said.
The drivers meanwhile rebuffed the claim made by the official.
“They have ample space to store the ration but we fail to understand why officials are making excuses to unload our trucks,” they said.
