Traffic Police Crack Down on Overloading, Pressure Horns, and Tinted Glasses
Kathua, February 17: In an ongoing effort to ensure road safety and minimize inconvenience to the public, the Rural Traffic Police have intensified their campaign against motor vehicle violations, including overloading, the use of pressure horns, and tinted glasses or curtains. These violations not only disrupt traffic flow but also pose significant risks to public safety.
In February 2025, up to the 16th, traffic authorities issued 232 challans for the illegal use of pressure horns, a practice that contributes significantly to noise pollution. This particularly affects young children and individuals suffering from various ailments. Fines totaling Rs. 30.09 lakhs have been imposed on violators.
A notable incident involved the seizure of a sleeper bus (UP 81DT-1195) traveling from Delhi to Jammu. During a routine check by Inspector Kapil Manhas at Kathua, the bus was found overloaded with 18 extra passengers. Further violations included:
• Lack of valid documents.
• Usage of curtains, in violation of MV Act rules.
• Modified seating to accommodate more passengers than the approved capacity of 32.
The bus was seized, and passengers expressed grievances over the inconvenience caused by these violations.
The Traffic Police have been conducting regular awareness drives across districts like Rajouri, Poonch, Samba, and Kathua. These campaigns involve public meetings, school programs, and interactions with transporters and drivers, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the Motor Vehicles Act for road safety.
A recent program at the Mendhar Bus Stand was led by DySP Traffic Rajouri-Poonch Shiv Kumar and Inspector Pawan Singh. The event was attended by SDPO Mendhar and SHO Mendhar, among others, and highlighted the need for collective responsibility in maintaining road safety.
The Traffic Police urge all stakeholders, including students, parents, and transporters, to comply with traffic rules to prevent unnecessary delays, traffic congestion, and the loss of precious lives. Authorities have also directed officers to intensify checks on passenger vehicles and take strict action against violators.
