Tourist From Saudi Arabia Killed, Driver Injured In Phalgam Mishap
Commissioner Secretary Tourism Terms Accident Unfortunate, Says Govt Will Do Everything Possible To Deport The Body
Srinagar, July 5: A foreign tourist from Saudi Arabia died and a driver was injured after a vehicle they were travelling in met with an accident at Laripora area of Phalgam, a famous tourist spot in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.
Reports reaching GNS said that the Innova vehicle (JK01AG-3438) skidded off the road and turned turtle at Laripora while returning from a nearby Golf Course in Phalgam today in the afternoon.
In the mishap, the tourist namely Khaleel Ahmad Qureshi and the driver Sameer Ahmad Najar son of Abul Jabbar Najar of Lolab Kupwara district were injured, they said.
A police officer also confirmed the mishap and said that both the injured were immediately taken to nearby health facility where the tourist Khaleel later succumbed to injuries.
Commissioner Secretary Tourism J&K, Rigzin Samphel termed the incident as unfortunate and said that he was in touch with deceased tourist’s friend in Kashmir. The body is being brought to Srinagar in an ambulance specially arranged for it and will be kept in a mortuary, he said.
“Whatever is within our domain will be done to deport the body to his native place,” the secretary added. (GNS)
