Supreme Court to Hear J&K Statehood Plea on August 8
The issue was raised by advocate Gopal Shankar Narayan before a bench headed by Justice B R Gavai. He informed the court that the matter is already listed for hearing on August 8 and requested that it not be removed from the list.
The CJI acknowledged the submission and said the matter would be taken up as scheduled.
The petition concerns the demand to restore full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, which was reorganized into a Union Territory following the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019.
The matter has remained pending before the court and is being closely watched by political groups and residents of the region.(KNS).
