Sunil Sharma Slams NC for Disrupting Assembly, Hails Return of Normalcy in J&K

Says Statehood Part of BJP’s Vision, Not NC’s Narrative
“NC Workers Celebrated Masrat Alam’s Release in the Past”

Srinagar, Apr 12  : Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly and senior BJP leader, Sunil Sharma, on Saturday accused the National Conference (NC) of deliberately stalling the Assembly proceedings during the concluding days of the budget session, alleging that the party is evading meaningful debate on public issues.

Addressing a press conference in Srinagar, Sharma said, “For the last three days, NC disrupted the functioning of the House. While we wanted to highlight crucial public concerns, they resorted to chaos and walked out.”

Sharma reiterated the BJP-led Centre’s commitment to Jammu and Kashmir’s holistic development. He assured that all centrally-sponsored welfare schemes will continue smoothly, reaching every section of society.

Highlighting the improved security situation in the Union Territory, Sharma said, “Downtown Srinagar, once known for frequent shutdowns, is now witnessing normalcy. There are no hartals, schools are functioning, and peace has returned.”

He launched a strong attack on the NC leadership, stating that 10,000 party workers were killed during the tenures of Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah. “Since the Union Home Ministry under Amit Shah took charge, not a single NC worker has been murdered,” Sharma said, calling for a probe into those killings. “NC must clarify whether they failed to protect their workers or were complicit,” he added.

Accusing both NC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of allowing miscreants to operate freely under their rule, Sharma said they failed to use the Public Safety Act (PSA) to protect civilians. In contrast, he claimed, the BJP government took decisive action by jailing disruptive elements, thereby saving lives.

Responding to NC’s repeated demand for the restoration of statehood, Sharma stated, “Statehood is part of the BJP’s vision. Omar Abdullah is trying to mislead people. It will be restored at the right time, not through provocative or religious sloganeering in the Assembly.”

He also alleged that NC leaders were trying to stoke communal tensions inside the House. “The Assembly is meant for legislative discourse, not for creating religious divides,” Sharma said.

Recalling past incidents, Sharma criticized the NC’s support for the release of separatist Masrat Alam during Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s tenure. “It was NC workers who celebrated his release,” he claimed.

Declaring that terrorism has been pushed into remote forest areas, Sharma emphasized that peace is being restored. “Even the graves of NC leaders are now protected by security forces. That speaks volumes about the transformation. Businesses are thriving, schools are open, and public life is normal again,” he added. (KNS)
