Sumbal Incident Black Stain On Our Social Fabric, Rich Culture: Geelani
Srinagar: Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani on Sunday termed horrific incident of Sumbal area of Bandipora district in north Kashmir as a black stain on Kashmir’s social fabric and rich culture and also lashed out at the role played by the enforcement agencies of the state.
“Such incidents are a black stain on our social fabric and rich culture and the bribery and a poor sense of responsibility both in judiciary and police administration has left the galloping crime rate un-tethered because of the Kashmir issue,” the veteran Hurriyat leader said in a statement.
He said that the political interference in law enforcement institutions has infected and ruined the whole system.
“Kuthua incident, which has become a forgotten part of history now, is a proof of failure of law enforcement institutions. At Sumbal angry mob have thronged on the roads and are demanding an immediate legal action but the police administration remain mere spectators,” Geelani said.
He also appealed to keep a constant vigil on the breeding social evils and fashions which have ruined Kashmir’s social fabrics.
There has been an outrage over horrific rape of a three-year-old girl in Trigam. Massive protests were held in the area today with people demanding speedy trial of the case.
