Srinagar Court summons Srinagar Central Jail Superintendent to answer contempt charges

Srinagar, June 1: Srinagar Court has summoned Superintendent Central Jail Srinagar Zulfikar Azad to answer the charge of offence of contempt of court.
The Court of First Additional District and Sessions Judge, Srinagar, presided over by has directed the Superintendent of Jail to ensure medical treatment of the accused Bilal Ahmed Sheikh in respect of his ailments.
Advocate Aamir Masoodi who represents Sheikh pleaded before the court that Superintendent Central Jail has not complied with the court directions.
“My client needs immediate medical attention. He is suffering from serious chronic back problem which requires spinal surgery on urgent basis. Due to the lack of proper medical facility and absence of special doctors in Central Jail Srinagar the health of my client is getting worsened and deteriorated day by day,” Advocate Masoodi pleaded before court.
He added that despite clear directions from the court to ensure medical treatment of Sheikh in respect of his ailments, jail authorities have taken no measures to comply with the directions.
Advocate Masoodi vehemently pleaded that jail authorities be charged with contempt of court.
The court issued contempt notice against Superintendent Central Jail with directions to remain present on the next date of hearing listed on 8 June 2024.
