Srinagar Court summons CDPO Baghat in contempt of court matter; directed to remain present in person

Srinagar, June 11: Srinagar Court has directed the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) to remain present in person before it on next date of hearing in a matter of contempt of court.

The Court of Special Mobile Magistrate Passenger Tax, Srinagar, presided over by Sunil Kumar issued directions after the counsel representing petitioner in domestic violence case, submitted that CDPO Baghat Kanipora “has deliberately not complied with court directions.”

Earlier, the Court had appointed CDPO as Protection Officer for the aggrieved women and directed “Protection Officer (CDPO) shall personally ensure” to provide shelter to aggrieved persons.

Under the provisions of Domestic Violence Act, 2005, the Protection Officer shall be under the control and supervision of the Magistrate, and shall perform the duties imposed on him by the Magistrate.

Earlier, advocate Aamir Masoodi representing petitioner pleaded that CDPO Baghat Kanipora “has willfully and deliberately disobeyed the interim order passed by court due to the malicious reasons best known to him.”

He further pleaded that the contemnor (CDPO) has abused and harassed the applicant therefore the criminal act on part of him needs to be dealt with the iron hands of law and the fists of justice.

“Contemnor is guilty of contempt as his conduct brought the authority and administration of law into disrespect which cannot be ignored and overlooked before the mechanism of law,” he pleaded before the Court while making submission for initiation of contempt of court proceedings against CDPO.

Advocate Masoodi further submitted the contempt proceedings against the CDPO “be initiated for willful disobedience to the court orders.”

The Court issued summon to CDPO with directions to him to remain present in person on the next date of hearing in the matter of contempt of court. The court listed the case for 16 June, this year.
