Srinagar Court issues directions to Police to arrest UP man

Srinagar, Feb 21: A Court here on Friday issued directions to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar to constitute the team to arrest Jitender Narayan Singh Tyagi, formerly known as Waseem Rizvi, of Lucknow Uttar Pradesh for allegedly “making derogatory statement against Muslims and Islam” in 2022.

The Court of Second Additional, Munsiff, Srinagar, presided over by Vikas Bhardwaj, issued directions after observing that despite several endeavours, the presence of the accused could not be secured.

“Despite several endeavours, the presence of the accused could not be secured. Therefore in order to secure the presence of the accused, SSP concerned (Srinagar) is hereby directed to constitute a team to arrest the accused and produce him before this Court by next date of hearing,” the Court said.

In February 2022, the Srinagar Court has taken the cognizance of complaint filed by Danish Hassan Dar of Srinagar and issued a summon against Jitender Narayan Singh Tyagi, formerly known as WaseemRizvi, of Lucknow Uttar Pradesh for allegedly “making derogatory statement against Muslims and Islam.”

During today’s hearing, Advocate Aamir Masoodi submitted that the criminal complaint is pending disposal since 2022 and till date accused has failed to appear before the court despite number of opportunities have been given to him by the Court to appear.

“Now the mechanism of law for the production of accused is required to be taken under consideration and the accused needs to be dealt with the iron hands of law in terms of his arrest to seek his production before this court,” he pleaded.

Court listed the matter on 24 April 2025 for next date of hearing.
