Special Drive Launched Against Pressure Horn Use in Rural Jammu
Under the supervision of G.L. Sharma, JKPS, SSP Traffic Rural Jammu, a special drive has been launched to curb the use of pressure horns by drivers of passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, and goods carriers in Samba, Kathua, Rajouri, and Poonch districts.
The use of pressure horns has been strictly prohibited under Section 190(2) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. These horns and sirens, when used unauthorizedly, contribute to noise pollution, causing significant inconvenience to the public, especially elderly individuals and those suffering from various health conditions.
From January 2025 to February 13, 2025, enforcement teams booked 228 pressure horn violations across these districts, imposing fines totaling Rs. 22.80 lakhs. Dy. SP Traffic Samba-Kathua and Dy. SP Traffic Rajouri-Poonch have been instructed to intensify action against violators.
The campaign is part of a broader initiative to address other traffic offences, including dangerous driving, over-speeding, driving without helmets, mobile phone use while driving, and overloading. Officials have also announced legal action against parents permitting minors to drive.
The Traffic Police have urged the public to adhere to Motor Vehicle rules and prioritize road safety to minimize inconvenience and reduce accidents.
