South Kashmir: Twin districts shut against militant killings
Clashes erupted, Mobile Internet services shut
Pulwama/Shopian: A complete shutdown is being observed in twin districts of South Kashmir on Thursday.
Reports said a complete shutdown is being observed in Pulwama and Shopian districts of South Kashmir against the killing of three militants in an encounter with government forces at Keller village in South Kashmir’s Shopian district on Thursday morning.
Three slain militants identified as Aaqib Ahmad and Basharat Ahmad belonging to Bathnoor and Wasoora village in Pulwama district and Sajad Khanday belonging to Bamnoo, Keller village in Shopian district were killed in this encounter.
As soon as killing of three militants reached to the people, youths took to streets and pelted stones on government forces, government forces retaliated by firing teargas shells to disperse them which triggered clashes.
Reports of clashes were received from Main Market Pulwama, Naira Tahab village in Pulwama district and in Keller village of Shopian district.
Meanwhile, all shops, business establishments etc. remained shut in these twin districts and traffic movement was also not visible on roads.
As a precautionary measures authorities snapped down Mobile Internet services in these twin district to maintain law and order.
