Sopore encounter is over: IGP Kashmir
Foolproof security arrangements are being done for smooth conduct of Republic Day celebrations in Kashmir valley, he said
Srinagar, Jan 21: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone, Vidhi Kumar Birdi today said that the encounter between security forces and militants in Gujjarpati, Zaloora area of north Kashmir’s Sopore has been over.
“The security forces had received a tip-off about some suspicious movement in the area following which a cordon and search operation was laid. Soon the search party zeroed in the suspected spot the hiding terrorists fired upon, triggering gunfight in the area,” IGP Kashmir said.
He said during searches the security forces busted the hideout used by terrorists in the area.
The IGP Kashmir continued that one army soldier initially got injured who later on succumbed to his injuries on Monday, and added, “The operation is over now”.
Responding to a query, the IGP Kashmir said that foolproof security arrangements are being done for smooth conduct of Republic Day celebrations in Kashmir valley.
“The preparations are being done. There will be multi-tire security arrangements in place for smooth conduct of Republic Day celebrations,” IGP Kashmir added.
