Sonamarg all set for New Year festival on Dec 31

 

Authorities review arrangements for winter sports, cultural extravaganza

 

Ganderbal, Dec 27  : Renowned tourist destination Sonamarg is all set to host the two-day New Year Festival from December 31, 2023, officials said on Wednesday.

According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal, Shyambir, chaired a meeting with officers and stakeholders to discuss and review the preparations for a grand New Year festival.

During the meeting, the CEO of Sonamarg Development Authority provided an overview of the arrangements for the two-day New Year Festival, scheduled to kick off on December 31. The festival promises a lineup of activities, including winter sports and cultural events, spanning both days, he said.

The DC called for meticulous planning and execution, and sought details on venue identification and beautification, accommodation, water and power supply, cultural performances, health facilities, heating arrangements, transport, parking, and the operationalisation of the Z-Morh Tunnel.

With a considerable influx of tourists, including locals, expected for the New Year celebration, the DC stressed the importance of collaborative efforts and coordination among all stakeholders to ensure a seamless experience for attendees.

Key attendees at the meeting included the Additional District Development Commissioner, Mushtaq Ahmad Simnani, CEO of SDA, Joint Director of Tourism, Executive Engineers from various departments, representatives from the Hotelier Association Sonamarg, and various officers and officials from the District Administration, along with other stakeholders. The concerted efforts aim to make the Sonamarg New Year Festival a memorable and enjoyable experience for all participants—(KNO)
