SKIMS Bemina students protest, demand resumption of clinical classes

Srinagar, Jan 02 (KNS): Scores of under-graduate and post-graduate students of SKIMS Medical College Bemina Saturday protested against the college authorities for putting clinical classes on hold, demanding its early resumption besides restoring the institution to its pre-covid19 position.

According to Kashmir News Service (KNS), the protesting students assembled in Srinagar’s Press Enclave here and demanded early resumption of clinical classes.

“Authorities kept Covid19 patients in the college and clinical classes are shut since nine months. Neither OPD nor IPD is functioning. In such a situation is it possible we will become good medicos”, protesting students told KNS.

They alleged that college authorities have closed down OPD facility since long and whenever any media person asking about it, college authorities are resorting to lies.

“I’m posted in surgery department. Patients from far off places are visiting here but returning disappointed as authorities have put online registration system in place”, a PG student said and added “When GMC Baramulla, Rajouri and others are functioning normally what is the problem in resuming normal affairs at SKIMS Bemina”.

While chanting slogans against college authorities, students demand immediate resumption of clininal classes in the facility. They also demanded the hospital should be returned to its pre-Covid19 position as it costs heavy toll on the studies of students.

“We approached concern officials several times but always they are giving fake assurance and delaying the matter”, students alleged.

Meanwhile Principal SKIMS Bemina Prof Reyaz Ahmad Untoo told KNS claimed that all classes are being conducted normally and maintained that out of five batches, three are on vaccations.

Untoo added that final year classes will be resumed in SKIMS Soura as roaster set by the authorities. While refuting the allegations, he said that non-Covid OPD Labs’and other diagnostics departments are funtioning normally, however few PG students are creating fuss “unnecessarily” which is being examined.

“If any faculty member is not taking classes, students should report to concern office”, he said.
