SHRC Pulls Up Govt For Failing To Set Up Commission For Protection Of Child Rights
Srinagar: The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) Tuesday pulled up the government for its failure to set up a commission for protection of child rights.
The SHRC in its order reminded the commissioner secretary Social Welfare department for report on rights of children. However, the Additional Advocate general of State and the commissioner secretary to the government concerned didn’t turn up for the hearing.
Earlier, International Forum for Justice and Human Rights Chairman Ahsan Untoo had filed a petition with SHRC demanding that appointing a commission for protecting of child rights.
In the petition, Untoo had highlighted the large number of students, both elementary and high school level, in all districts had come on streets against the civilian killings.
“But they were dealt with iron hand and brute force by the police. The government rather than using force should have handled the students with empathy rather than labeling their protests as a law and order problem, reads the petition,” reads the petition.
