Shopian Police Conducts Joint Inspection of Medical Shops with Drug Control Department Following DFCO Ban on Cough Syrups
Shopian, October 15:
Following the recent advisory issued by the Jammu and Kashmir Drug and Food Control Organisation (DFCO) banning certain pediatric cough syrups declared “Not of Standard Quality,” Shopian Police, in coordination with the Drug Control Department Shopian, conducted joint inspections of medical shops and pharmacies across the district.
The drive aimed to ensure compliance with the DFCO directive banning ColdRif Syrup, RespiFresh-TR Syrup, and Relif Syrup, which were found unsafe due to the presence of Diethylene Glycol (DEG) impurities beyond permissible limits.
During inspections, no banned syrups were found in any medical shop. Pharmacists were sensitized to strictly adhere to DFCO and Health Department guidelines and to refrain from storing or selling the banned formulations.
Shopian Police remains committed to safeguarding public health and will continue regular inspection and awareness drives in coordination with civil and enforcement agencies.
