Shopian residents accuse sumo drivers of overcharging, violating SOP’s

Shopian: The residents of Shopian village in South Kashmir have accused sumo drivers of overcharging them besides not following SOP’s amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The residents of Kumdalan village have complained that sumo drivers are overcharging them for travelling from Kumdullan to Shopian. Earlier, the fare charge on same route was Rupees 10 and now they are being charged Rs 30 for same.

The residents allege that sumo drivers not only overcharge them but also violate standard operating procedures (SOP’s) by not maintaining social distancing and allowing 10 passengers to travel in a vehicle.

The government had increased 30% fare hike and asked drivers to carry only half capacity in the vehicle as a precautionary measure in view of coronavirus pandemic.

The locals said that its injustice with us and authorities should intervene in this matter.
