Several Leaders, DDC Members Set to Quit Party

Srinagar 20 August:- In a significant development, several prominent leaders from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are likely to resign in protest over being sidelined in the party’s recent decisions on constituency in-charges.

The leaders, who were not consulted before the party’s parliamentary board made the announcements, have expressed their discontent and are planning to contest elections independently.

According to sources, former MLA and DDC Member Aijaz Ahmad Mir from Wachi, DDC Member Dr. Harbakash Singh from Tral, and Raja Wahid, DDC Member from Shopian, Qayoom Mir are among those considering resignation from the PDP.

Talking to Kashmir News Bureau (KNB), Aijaz Ahmad confirmed the development, saying, “We are going to resign from the PDP and will contest elections. We were not asked for our opinions or views before the party formed the constituency in-charges. It’s unacceptable and we can’t continue like this.”

Dr. Harbakash Singh and Raja Wahid also expressed similar sentiments, stating that they were not consulted before the party’s decisions and are now planning to contest elections.

The potential resignations come after the PDP’s parliamentary board released the list of constituency in-charges for south Kashmir, which included some surprise choices and omissions. Senior party leader Abdul Rehman Veeri was assigned Anantnag East, while Mehbooba Mufti’s daughter, Iltija Mufti, was given the mandate for Bijbehara.

Meanwhile, workers from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) staged a protest in favor of Aijaz Ahmad Mir at Zainapora in Shopian, expressing their dissent against the party. They chanted slogans, saying, “We are not with the party now because they have done injustice to our leaders.” The protest reflects the growing discontent among PDP workers and leaders, who feel that the party has ignored their voices and concerns.
